The public school system of Hertford County consists of one comprehensive high school (9 -12), one middle school (6 - 8) and four elementary schools (K - 5).

All schools are accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and also by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.

A comprehensive curriculum, based upon North Carolina's Standard Course of Study, is offered in Hertford County for all students in grades pre-kindergarten through twelve.

The elementary and middle school curriculums include basic skills in reading, language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, health, physical education, music, art and foreign language. The high school curriculum includes a variety of courses in three major areas of study: college preparatory, general education or vocational education. Opportunity is available for participation in a wide range of activities such as chorus, band, vocational clubs, academic clubs and interscholastic athletics.
